News ArchiveFebruary 2018 The TurfTeq Surface Preparation Rake offers the quickest way to prepare soil for turf, grass seed or wild flowers. Much quicker than a rotavator, it not only prepares the soil, but also windrows the stones. First you angle the deck left or right to work the stones into windrows for easy collection. Whilst doing this, the rake is already starting to produce a fine tilth and grade the site. Next, pivot the head straight and work it across the area in two or three directions in order to complete the job. You now have a level, rough-raked site ready to accept turf. If you are seeding, you just need to touch in the wheel marks with a hand rake. It tills only the top layer (3 to 25mm), and the soil is immediately ready for use. You don't have to re-consolidate the ground, as you would if you used a rotavator. Consequently, it will not slump when the first serious fall of rain comes along. To replace an existing lawn without lifting the turf, kill off the grass with a suitable chemical. The Rake will quickly rip out the dead grass, working up a tilth as it does so, and the site is ready, leaving only a few bags of dead grass to dispose of. This feature can also be used for heavy scarification, such as preparation for a wild flower meadow or breaking up and levelling self-binding gravel paths, golf buggy paths and similar surfaces. A rugged, bullet-proof, American product driven by TurfTeq's GXV390, Honda-engined tractor. Landscape gardener Will Cole recently wrote the following review: "I recently had the chance to use one of these machines for a lawn renovation job and although it's an expensive piece of kit to either buy or hire, the considerable savings in time far outweigh the costs. The lawn in question was beyond help!! It was cut down to the lowest setting possible with the lawn mower and cuttings removed. We then got the preparation rake into action, setting up the machine at an angle. After several passes up and down, the bumps and troughs had been taken out of the lawn and the thatch, roots and stones were lined up ready for easy collection. This done, we then reset the machine into the straight position and passed over the ground once more producing a fine tilth. With a little straightening out with a landscape rake, it was ready for seeding. I would definitely use this machine again. It does a better job than a rotavator, and as it only disturbs the top half inch or so of the soil, you do not have the worry of sinkeage to a new lawn". October 2016 The best way to decide whether a machine is the right one for you is to use it over an extended period. A demonstration doesn't really cut it. Usually, it's of short duration; also, you may feel uncomfortable operating the equipment with the demonstrator breathing down your neck! Hire it for just a day; longer if you wish. If you buy it at the end of the period we'll refund the hire charge (max one week). If you decide it isn't for you, all you pay is the rental fee and you will have got some useful work done with it - ideal! N.B. Equipment Hire Companies; we'll do the same deal if you cross-hire a machine so that one of your customers can trial it for you. Our Plans to get Bed and Border Edging
back on the Agenda. Recent letter from Paul Errington to The Landscaper magazine following the editorial in their Set 2016 edition Reading your editorial this morning got me to thinking about how much the look of parks could be improved by edging the beds and borders. As a result of budget cuts, it has been all-but abandoned. It is seen as a time-consuming, labour-intensive job but can actually be very quick provided you have the right machine. Over the last few years, I have heard more than one facilities management company say that it's actually still in their brief, but the budget doesn't allow time for it, so everyone turns a blind eye. Consequently, the edges look scruffy and in many cases the soil has completely filled the gullies so that there really isn't an edge at all. In such situations, a small, lightweight edging machine isn't the best tool for the job. They are good at maintaining established edges/gullies, but you need a much heavier machine in order to cut a new edge. Limited Hire Offer for Local Authorities In order to start getting edging back on the agenda, we are prepared to offer the loan of a TurfTeq edging machine that can quickly re-establish edges and gullies. It will be made available, for a limited time, to Local Authorities with responsibility for maintaining at least one public park. The offer is made subject to certain conditions, the main ones of which are:

August 2014 No matter which attachment(s) you usually drive with your TurfTeq tractor, you can quickly and inexpensively turn it into a rough-cut mower for just £1,165 + vat*, including transport. The GXV390 TurfTeq rough-cut mower, or brushcutter, is a heavy duty machine that will effortlessly cut down:
Its unique side-shift feature allows you to pivot the deck 12" (300mm) to the side so you can safely cut close to hedges and waterways, and under fence lines. The machine is hydrostatically driven, is fitted with a diff lock as standard, and is easier to maintain than a flail. Owing to the continued strength of the £ Sterling, we have recently lowered the price of TurfTeq machines, so there has never been a better time to buy. *Special offer price; expires 31st August 2014. ZIPLEVEL® User Hint
ZIPLEVEL® is a unique survey instrument that will transfer levels and measure height differences without needing line of sight. It can work around corners; from room to room; behind trees, bushes and garden sheds; in trenches and culverts; can estimate infill volumes e.g. for hardcore, concreting or screeding; can measure structural deflection; needs only one person to operate it; is compact and light weight; easy to use and requires virtually no set-up. It can store up to 137 plots which can be recalled later, and will work over unlimited heights and distances and around any obstacle - unlike laser and dumpy levels. USER HINTDid you know ZIPLEVEL® can remember up to 137 plots that you can recall later? This feature allows you to record measurement data for creating tables, profiles, sections or contour maps. Leave your notepads and drawings inside on a rainy or windy day. Simply record the readings and recall them later in your office. Here are the instructions for recording plots with the ZIPLEVEL®:

Power Rake Cleans Up On GravelDo you need to re-level uneven or pitted gravel paths? Are you putting it off because you can't face the slow, back-breaking job of loosening the surface? We can offer you a solution. The TurfTeq Power Rake excels at quickly breaking up the top surface of self-binding gravel paths, bringing fresh, unstained material to the top and enabling you to quickly re-establish a smooth surface. Earlier this year we rented a machine to Scampston Walled Garden in N. Yorkshire. This is what their Head Gardener, Paul Smith, had to say about it: "We hired the TurfTeq power rake to clean up our mile or so of self-binding gravel paths. The paths have been down for over ten years with a large amount of footfall and traffic compacting the gravel down. We also had a problem with the top layer looking dirty and moss covered. The power rake made a fantastic job of breaking up the surface and allowing some of the cleaner gravel from below to be brought up to the surface. We were able to adjust the height of the rake so that it did not overwork the gravel or pull up any sub-base. It was also quick - about a day's work to get around all the paths. We will definitely use this machine again. The service from GroundsCare Products was also first class". The Rake is equally at home preparing soil for seed or turf, raking the stones into windrows for easy collection, smoothing out uneven areas and working up a fine tilth. Use it also for heavy scarification, such as preparation for a wild flower site, and slitting for over-seeding. To rent or purchase, telephone 0118 981 1313. RotoCleanse Flat-Surface Pressure WasherThe GroundsCare RotoCleanse is the efficient new way to clean flat surfaces. It is a self-contained, walk-behind, professional pressure washer that produces a uniform standard of cleaning across an area with minimal overspray onto surrounding objects. Designed for cleaning almost any flat surface, it can be used on tarmac, concrete, brick pavers, soft-play areas, rubberized sports surfaces and wooden boards. It will clean up to 530mm (21") in one pass (Model 600); has a heavy- duty skirt that minimizes overspray; can draw water from mains supply or from a container, and is supplied with a quick change lance and hose that enables it to be used as a normal pressure washer if required. Small enough to fit through a standard doorway, typical applications for the RotoCleanse are:
Optional chewing gum, rotary brush and turbo lances are available. Now offered in two sizes: Model 600, which is ideally suited to cleaning large areas such as car parks or multiple tennis courts, and Model 400, which is more manoeuvrable and easier to use in restricted areas such as domestic patios. How it WorksTwin spinning jets, rotating at 2000rpm clean the surface to a uniform, high standard. The heavy duty skirt retains debris and minimizes over-spray, thus allowing cleaning to be carried out without the risk of contaminating or damaging nearby objects. There is a port, at the rear of the deck (model 600 only), to which the operator can attach a wet vacuum cleaner for collection of waste water and debris. To rent or buy, telephone 0118 981 1313 Ex-hire models, with low hours, are available to purchase. Trenching With The EdgerDid you know you can use the TurfTeq Power Edger to dig trenches? This amazing machine will not only make short work of edging borders, beds and pathways but will dig trenches from as narrow as ½" up to 5" wide (13mm - 125mm) and down to a depth of 7" (175mm). There are many uses for the trencher:
All these jobs can be done quickly and without damage to the surrounding grass. Powered by a Honda petrol engine, the TurfTeq trencher is easy to handle, very manoeuvrable and, unlike most trenching machines, works in a forwards direction so you can see where you are going. Also, again unlike many small trenching machines, it is self-driven. To rent or buy, telephone 0118 981 1313 Ex-hire models, with low hours, are available to purchase February 2014 The online landscapers' forum, Landscape Hub, recently ran a photo caption competition. GroundsCare Products donated TurfTeq and ZipLevel rental prizes for two of the categories. Congratulations to Steve Lewis, who won a week's free use of a TurfTeq machine with the following entry:
and Lez Dennis who won the use of a ZipLevel Pro 2000 for a week with this caption: I always new training as a stilt walker would come in handy on day! We look forward to meeting both entrants when they collect their prizes. P.S. Landscape Hub is an excellent forum for professional landscapers and gardeners; take a look some time. Power Rake at Scampston Hall. Feb 2014 "We hired the Turf-Teq power rake to clean up our mile or so of self-binding gravel paths. The paths have been down for over ten years with a large amount of footfall and traffic compacting the gravel down. We also had a problem with the top layer looking dirty and moss covered. The power rake made a fantastic job of breaking up the surface and allowing some of the clearer gravel from below to be brought up to the surface. We were able to adjust the height of the rake so that it did not overwork the gravel or pull up any sub-base. It was also quick - about a day's work to get around all the paths. Saints v GroundsCare Products - Latest Result Southampton Football Club have recently purchased a GroundsCare RotoCleanse walk-behind professional surface cleaner for general pressure washing of hard surfaces in and around the ground, and for cleaning the rubberized surface around the perimeter of the pitch. The machine uses twin spinning jets, rotating at 2000rpm, to clean the surface to a uniform, high standard. It is supplied complete with a 9m hose and lance, so can be used as a traditional pressure washer if needed. Optional lances are available, including one for chewing gum removal. Andy Gray, Grounds Manager of the Premiership club, hired the machine from us, and was sufficiently pleased with the results that he decided to purchase one. View product details here. December 2012 Snow has not yet hit most parts of the country but the threat is always there. We would like to remind you how good the TurfTeq Power Broom and Snow Plough are at clearing snow and slush from footpaths, roadways and sports pitches. They are in use at several blue chip sites where it is critical to maintain safe access 24/7 into and out of the site and between buildings. Both machines are available for long & short term rental as well as purchase. RotoCleanse High Pressure Rotary WasherTristan Stirling of Willow Marsh Garden Care recently hired the RotoCleanse, and this is what he had to say about it: "Having recently hired the RotoCleanse pressure washer I felt the need to give you some feedback on this relatively new addition to your arsenal of hire equipment. WOW! I have never come across a pressure washer with so much power. The cleaning effectiveness is second to none, the width of it makes cleaning large areas very quick and with the variable power function and lance this really is a one stop solution to pressure cleaning. Great tool!"
Available for long & short term rental as well as purchase. TurfTeq Power RakeHasmead Plc recently hired a TurfTeq™ Power Rake to renovate the self binding gravel paths at 200 Longwater Avenue, Green Park, Reading. Contracts Manager, Hilton Bartlett said: "The total area originally involved was 250sq m, but the machine performed so well, and did the job so quickly, we decided to tackle a much larger area. We ended up raking all the self binding gravel paths around Longwater Lake, totalling 5280 sqm. I can definitely recommend this machine." Available for long & short term rental as well as purchase. May 2012 We have had birds nesting in our gas cage again this year, only this time it was a family of robins; usually it’s wagtails. They all fledged last Thursday, but things went a bit wrong when two of them flew into the warehouse. The parents were in and out all day feeding them, and eventually one of the chicks flew out into the yard, but the other one refused to budge. Despite our efforts to shift him, he was still there on Saturday morning until one of the parents finally managed to coax him out into the big, wide world. After his rather rocky start, we hope he has a good life. No gas was harmed during the residence of these birds. Propane and Butane gas bottles are available from our Tadley shop.

2010 Exhibitions Attendance A hectic start to the year for the GroundsCare team with three shows in the space of four weeks! First trip out for Paul and Angela was to exhibit at the BTME show in Harrogate back in January. Despite the recent snow and miserable weather the show proved an inspiring benchmark for the New Year with lots of new and old customers stopping by and as always, considerable interest in the machines on show. Back for a week and this time the three amigos donned their red attire and headed for the Executive Hire Show in Coventry. A first for us and we were hugely pleased with the reception and interest shown. The Hire Industry proved receptive to the American machinery and we look forward to keeping you posted on the latest hire shops to acquire the fleet. Giving the two girls a break and after just one day back, Paul headed off overseas to the American Rental Show in Atlanta, USA. He joined Randy and Jim, Turf Teq manufacturers and designers to help out and brainstorm new ideas for this year's developments. Back for a few weeks rest?? No chance!! Back out on the road in the mighty GroundsCare truck for a flurry of demonstrations and hires booked up and down the country. You can catch the trio at the next show in the calendar, the Hard Landscaping Show in Coventry on the 24th and 25th March 2010. December 2009 Hugh Walsh is the face behind the successful Dublin based company, AutoLawn. Hugh met Paul through a mutual contact from Irish shipping company, Curtis & Lee. After coming along to the Kildare Show in August 2008 he secured the dealership for the full Turf Teq range and now is the sole importer of the range for Southern Ireland. Autolawn have the complete range in stock and Hugh is kept busy (and warm) driving all over the country doing equipment demonstrations. Having recently sold a Power Broom to Salthill Devon Football Club, Hugh has high hopes to sweep Ireland up and edge a few golf bunkers along the way. Hugh covers the Republic of Ireland and his contact details can be found on our website alongside other dealers for Northern Ireland and the West of Scotland.

With the emphasis on cost reduction without compromising high maintenance standards, local authorities, maintenance companies and universities are finding it a must-have addition to their fleet.

November 2009 The long trip to Scotland is now a regular feature in our calendar. It's always nice to see existing and new customers from north of the Border, and interest in the innovative and time-saving TufTeq products is as high as ever. This year was additionally worthwhile because we won the Elwood Plate for best stand in the medium (50 to 99 sq m) category. In 2007, we won the Skirving Shield for best stand in the up to 50 sq m category, all we have to do now is book a 100 sq m stand for next year……..hmm, perhaps not!
Hire The TurfTeq Range Did you know that the full range of TurfTeq equipment is available for short term hire and long term lease either from ourselves or from selected hire outlets? Maybe your capital equipment budget will not stretch to buying the machine you need, or perhaps you would like to use it for a week or two to make sure you really like it. If so, why not hire it? Hire can offer significant savings, especially if the equipment is only needed for a short time or a one-off job. Hire periods as short as a day are available, and there are also rates for two days, a weekend, a week or longer. The hire company buys the machine and absorbs the depreciation. They take care of the maintenance and servicing; deliver and collect the machine if requested; replaces or repairs it if necessary and can give you some goods tips on how to get the best out of it. By hiring from a reputable rental company, you can be sure the machine will have been thoroughly inspected and test run prior to the hire, and will be safe and ready to work. It also gives you an opportunity to try before you buy! People often don't appreciate just how much work the machines will do for them. Hiring gives you the opportunity to see how versatile they are, and how easy they are to use. For hire rates and seasonal offers, phone 0118 981 1313. Please note, all prices quoted exclude delivery, collection and VAT. Please ask for delivery charges.

Contract manager, Dave Thorne, said "We made good use of the Rake, particularly on small areas where it is more convenient than using a tractor-mounted machine. The rake quickly reduced the soil to a fine, level tilth ready for re-seeding". Sagum, who are based at East Grinstead in Sussex, specialize in cleaning up and doing minor re-instatement works at exhibition sites throughout the south of England. May
2009 The new TurfTeqTM Brush Cutter has been awarded the prestigious AE 50 Award presented by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ASABE). It features an innovative, variable-angle cutting deck that pivots incrementally to the left, up to 300mm (12 ins) beyond the handle bars. This allows the operator to cut under hedges, fences and trees whilst keeping hands and controls clear of the vegetation. On hill sides, the pivot feature adds stability to the machine by increasing overall ground contact. The walk-behind machine is used for clearing brush, weeds, tall grasses and any overgrown areas that are unsuitable for a finish mower. It is driven by the standard TurfTeqTM, GXV390 Honda-engined tractor which has fully hydrostatic forward and reverse drive which eliminates the need to stop and change gear to increase or decrease speed. The tractor also features a differential lock for maximum productivity whilst operating in a variety of conditions. The multi use tractor with quick-attach will also operate Turf Teq's Power Edger, Power Broom and Surface Preparation Rake. For price and availability of the Brush Cutter attachment, please contact Lorna on 0118 981 1313. December 2008 How often do you see grass spreading untidily over the top of kerbs or onto pathways? TurfTeqTM have recently developed a blade suitable for tackling this problem. It fits the standard Edger/Trencher machine, and we should have stock in UK by the middle of December. Meanwhile, we have a prototype, which is available for demonstrations. This additional capability will considerably enhance the versatility of the Edger/Trencher. To book a demo, please contact Lorna on 0118 981 1313. The tasks performed by the Edger/Trencher are as follows: With Groomer blade
With Hard Edge blade
With Opener blade
With Trenching blades
We recently attended Scots Turf 2008 with the fleet of equipment. Was good to see familiar faces from last year and new visitors alike. Introducing the Hard Edging Blade and showing the Mower Deck for the first time proved popular amongst the industry professionals and we look forward to returning to Scotland over the coming weeks for demonstrations.
